Energy Efficiency Centre Georgia (EECG, Georgia)
The Energy Efficiency Centre Georgia (EECG), is an NGO that was created in 1999 within the framework of the EGE9602 project of the EU TACIS program, supervised by the Ministry of Fuel and Energy of Georgia. EECG’s mission is: support renewable energy and energy efficiency utilization for sustainable development and, as a result, improve national energy security level and minimize negative environmental impact.
Over 20+ years of operation, EECG has implemented more than 120 projects. These include energy audits, feasibility studies, policy analysis technical and economic studies, comprehensive market research, pilot and demonstration projects, training in various RE & EE technologies, promotion and dissemination, project financing, as well as a deep understanding of the wider policy and investment issues facing the sustainable energy sector. The organization works very actively on clean energy awareness rising among civil society, decision makers and population at large advocating for environmentally friendly and economically sound ways of energy production and consumption. With the EC assistance EECG has been working for many years on promotion of energy efficiency among municipalities, working on capacity building of their personnel, development of energy efficient action plans, development of guidelines for municipal energy planning, CO2 Calculation Tool and manuals in energy auditing, trainings, implementation of demonstration pilot projects in municipal and public buildings, organization of Intelligent Energy days.

Since 2014 EECG is a Covenant of Mayors supporter in Georgia and works closely with 32 Covenant of Mayors signatories and supports local authorities in implementing sustainable energy policies, provides the administrative, promotional and technical assistance to them, organizing capacity building trainings for CoM signatories, CoM National & Territorial Coordinators and Supporters; initiated and organized Municipal Development Coordination Platform, maintains networking with financing institutions, international donors, relevant ministries, and cooperates with other programmes to develop a plan for achieving CoM East objectives and give strategic direction to the CoM East Project, as well as supports in planning and organization of EU Sustainable Energy Week events.
In 2018 the Centre completed the implementation of the project “ Training and Certification of Private Sector Energy Auditors and Awareness Campaign for Energy Efficiency in Buildings” financed by the Danish Ministry for Foreign Affairs and DANIDA, and administered by the Nordic Environment Finance Corporation (NEFCO) and implemented in partnership with ALLPLAN (Austria). This two component project envisaged capacity building of local specialists in energy auditing of public buildings through provision of hands-on energy auditing training and the increase the motivation and awareness of public buildings, and municipality staff in charge of developing and controlling energy expenditure in public buildings about introducing energy saving measures in public buildings at municipal level.
Under EU Horizon 2020 together with 17 international partners on the implementation of SMARTER Finance for Families-Improving Citizens’ Health, Comfort and Financial Well-Being by Supporting Banks, Residential Investors and Solution Providers with Green Homes and Green Mortgage programs
Having in its team certified experts in resource efficiency and cleaner production as National Implementing Partner EECG is implementing project “Resource Efficient & Cleaner Production and Eco-Innovation among SMEs” under Result 2- “Circular Economy and New Growth Opportunities” of EU funded E4Environment. The project is implemented in Georgia and other EaP countries and will further work on building capacity of SMEs to use RECP and eco-innovation approaches in their operations.
The pilot intervention Energy Transition for Income and Employment implemented in 2021-2022 under RECONOMY program of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) implemented by HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation focused on filling existing gaps in providing skilled and certified specialists for renewable energy & energy efficiency sectors in 3 countries of South Caucasus, in the areas specified for each country and in partnership with businesses and training providers elaborated and implemented the specific training and certification programs for the young people (practitioners, women), supported to the visibility and marketing of the newly educational products created as well as young skilled professionals capable to work and to support green growth.
EU Supported VET partnership For Green and Smart Electricity in Buildings- VET4GSEB (2023-2024) aims at provision of national VET providers with tailored solutions, training materials, case studies, tools and guidance from partner countries (Bulgaria and Turkey) to Albania, Armenia, Georgia and Ukraine to enable them to update their practices and training programs to meet the skills-related needs of the construction and renewable energy labor market.
