3E-Partnership Study Visit at POLIMI, Italy
POLIMI, Italy 05 October

Dates: October 3–4, 2024
Participants: 26 Representatives from Project Partner Institutions and Colleagues from POLIMI

Politecnico di Milano, one of Europe’s oldest and most prestigious education and research institutions, hosted representatives of the 3E-Partnership project for an insightful study visit. The agenda provided in-depth knowledge on contemporary research, educational programs, student engagement initiatives, and efforts addressing Europe’s societal challenges.

Key Insights from Speakers

  • Prof. Flavia Grassi introduced the Ambassadors of Green Technologies and Smart Infrastructure program, part of the interuniversity initiative "Tecnologie per le Transizioni." The program aims to train a new generation of professionals specializing in green and smart sectors, equipped with digital and interdisciplinary skills. Participants engage with case studies and team-based challenges to prepare for complex, multisectoral environments.
  • Prof. Maurizio Delfanti analyzed support instruments for renewable electricity in Europe, such as feed-in tariffs, auctions, PPAs, and tax incentives. He evaluated their effectiveness in reducing renewable technology costs, maintaining grid stability, and attracting clean energy investments.
  • Associate Professor Matteo F. Iacchetti led discussions on Generators for Direct-Drive Wind Energy Conversion Systems, focusing on innovative designs to improve efficiency and reliability. His work emphasizes eliminating traditional gearbox mechanisms, lowering maintenance costs, and advancing the competitiveness of wind energy in the global market.

Site Visits and Lab Engagements
The visit included guided tours of laboratories at the Leonardo Campus, showcasing advanced research facilities and projects related to energy efficiency and smart technologies.

This study visit underscored the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation in addressing Europe’s transition to a sustainable and energy-efficient future.

European Energy Efficiency towards Mutually Reinforcing Partnership with Georgia, Azerbaijan and Ukraine - The 3E-Partnership Project aims at modernizing and empowering higher education institutions in Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Ukraine, enhancing their capacity for energy resilience and cross-regional cooperation. The project is based on two main pillars: Knowledge Generation and Building Mutually Reinforcing Partnerships. The first, ‘Knowledge Generation’ pillar covers the actions and efforts related to co-designing and piloting curricula in energy efficiency, developing modern competencies, and building necessary skills for participants.

Among several goals, the project identifies Goal 1: Development of Common Curriculum in Energy Efficiently, using innovative learning approaches and strategies, working with non-academic sectors, and fully considering ongoing geopolitical challenges.

To achieve this goal, the 3E-Partnership Project envisages Workshops and Curriculum discussion visits as part of Study visits (Belgium, Italy, Spain, 9 days) to share the best practices, teaching strategies, methods and resources in energy efficiency and green partnerships.

As a result of the study visits and knowledge exchange activities, the project is expected to deliver Jointly Designed Curriculum in Energy Efficiency: 2 BA level courses, 1 MA level course, 1 seasonal school curriculum.
